Finding Your Why

For a while I felt lost. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted out of life, so I let the outside noise of who I should be get to me. One of my strengths is setting a goal and working hard until I achieve it. I go all in. But the problem with listening to the outside noise was that I was setting the wrong goals. I was leading myself down a rabbit hole of unfulfillment because I wasn’t listening to my intuition on what I wanted.

What is your outside noise? Is it that in order to be successful you have to own a multi million dollar business? Is it that in order to be a good mom, you have to stay home? When we allow others expectations to wash over us and lead our choices, we lose the very essence of our uniquely given why. And I get it. It’s easy to let others guide your choices because it can be hard to do the work rifling through what you really want versus what the stories you have been conditioned to believe tell you.

So how do you find your why?

I wish I had a linear answer for you but to be honest, most days I am still discovering the layers of mine. But I can give you some tips on where to start:

  • List out all the words that speak to you. For example, some of mine are intention, release, courage, community, vulnerability, teach, share, authentic. Do you see the correlation between those words and my why?
  • Think Back - journal through the experiences that have shaped you, remade you, broke you. What were the lessons you learned? Where’s the thread?
  • Passion - what excites you? Art? Cooking? Gardening? Helping Others? Lean into what sparks your interest.
  • Personality Test, Birth Charts, etc. - I loooove the sixteen personality test + astrology + birth charting! It really has given me insight into why I am the way I am.
