Self Care for the Holidays
Holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year and the most stressful. The to-do list is endless: buying gifts, planning events and a ton of caretaking it’s easy to get overwhelmed. We want the best for you this season, so we created a little list of self love. It’s easy as 1, 2, 3 (or 1-6 but who’s counting?).
1. Keep self-care on the calendar. If you’re not feeling well, you won’t be able to do all the other things on your schedule well. Don’t cut self-care activities like exercise, therapy and you time during the season.
2. Give yourself permission to say no.You don’t have to say yes to every invitation. Between invites from work, friends and family, it’s okay to take some time alone. Decide which ones are essential and no to the rest.
3. Be smart about alcohol. You’re going to come across alcohol more often during the holidays. Be mindful of your limits and how it’ll affect your energy, sleep and mood.
4. You don’t have to be alone. You may not live near family or have holiday plans and you feel lonely. Know that there are people in the same situation and make an effort to find them! Low key events like yoga classes, movies and pop-up shops are a great way to be in community.
5. Eat right.Holiday weight is real (all those potlucks!). Sweet treats like eggnog and cookies are great, but feed your body other things it needs too. Your body (and mind) will be grateful for a balanced diet.
6. Center yourself. What you can start doing now is mentally prepare for the end of the year. You may be busy or see people you haven’t seen in a while. Take time to practice mindfulness and don’t be too hard on yourself. Self care goes year round.
