Beauty treatments get high tech really fast. No matter what the technique is, the goal is clear skin and a luminous glow. One of our up and coming favs? LED therapy. We’re giving you the basics so you can be updated on the latest in beauty technology.
What is it?
LED stands for light-emitting diode. It creates heat via infrared light. Different wavelengths offer different benefits. For example: amber light stimulates collagen, red light promotes circulation and white light reduces inflammation.
LED therapy costs from $150 to $300 per session. It can be combined with microneedling or microdermabrasion, or on its own.
How does it work?
Light stimulation therapy is done with an LED system mask over the client’s face. It takes about 15 minutes and the client will feel warmth, which is a relaxing feeling. The light doesn’t cause any burns or skin damage, which is a big plus for clients who have low pain tolerance. Light therapy is done every one to two weeks.
There are at home LED treatments, including masks for lips and the eye area, but for first-time users, a professional treatment is recommended.
What are the benefits?
Clients come to light stim therapy for common skin problems like acne and fine lines. Each infrared targets a different skin concern. Red lights treat wrinkles and blue lights prevent breakouts by killing acne-causing bacteria.
Light stim therapy is beneficial, but it doesn’t replace a skincare routine consisting of sunscreen, retinoids and anti-bacterial agents.
